No real spoilers, but a lot of qualitative assessments. REALLY astute people might pick this up as a little spoily, because you might figure out what I'm talking about. Many of the people who would read my review have read the books, so really, there are no surprises to spoil.

The physics was done right, in all aspects. I was very pleased with this. Special effects were well done. Nothing looked hokey.

Much of the movie seems rushed. Some of it is pacing, and some of it is story elements. It needed another hour to really fit things in properly. Some terminology was omitted until the very end. I didn't get it as a nod to the books. It really served to reinforce how much was trimmed from the movie. I think making it an epic movie would have done more to bring people in for the next movie, or for re-watching of this one.

There were tech changes, and one story change that I didn't really like. They did this to fit in one concept from another book. Some of the trimmed elements really were needed to support this. I think they could have left out that element and picked it up in the next movie. On the flip side, without the element in this movie, it might not have drawn people into the next movie.

The changes overall seemed to be set up to forcibly require a sequel to be substantially rewritten vs the books. Or maybe it was made on the premise that there wouldn't be a sequel. Either of these options disappoint me.

Paying IMAX rates weren't really my favorite. It would have been just as good on a normal screen, though 3D would have been nice for once. IMAX is really more about fitting more people into a theatre at once it seems. Though, the details were pretty good.

Even with all of my complaints, I still call this an 8 on a 10-point scale. Definitely worth the watch. I wouldn't cry if I had to see it again.

Europa Report is good. You should watch it if you like Sci Fi. Its sort of realistic SciFi. PG13

Pretty good. 4.5 stars. A few lighting issues and technical issues, and pacing was a little slow. I think that is purposeful, because of the structure of the movie.

Definitely worth the watch. We have it for another 43 hrs. :)

YaY Amazon VoD.

If you like over-the-top Kung Fu movies, but always thought there needed to be more allusions to sex, and more cursing, then this movie is for you.

Tons of laughs, and well executed fake gore. Has the feel of old style, late night martial arts shows.

Gold and revenge fuel conflict between several factions, until all but one side are left dead.

Not for kids. Almost as campy as Army of Darkness.

Seven psychopaths is twisty and woven in on itself. It blurs the lines between reality and the story being told. It's mostly linear, with a few bubbles and loops. It's multiple fragments cemented together. The cast is good, including Christopher Fracking Walken.

The big screen is good, but you may get
more enjoyment if you have a designated driver and babysitter.

Not for everyone, but still a solid 8 of 10.

How did I miss that Voldemort was played by Ralph Fiennes?

Charlie Chaplain's speech in The Great Dictator with music and video inserts to which add even more power.

The speech is from 1940, and was speaking out against Nazi Facism, but it seems appropriate for most any time of civil discontent.

There's a big nod to Trek in this Xformers-Moon.

Nimoy voices a major character, and says Optimus "failed to see the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

Though, even though there's an implosion, I didn't see any red matter.

3D was ok, but not nearly as flashy as you'd expect.

CG of Boxleitners' and Bridges' faces was really mediocre and distracting. I think they knew this, which is why there's a lot of black helmet action throughout the movie.

Apparently, Ovlivia Wilde wanted the haircut to be less sexy. IMHO, inverse effect. Total beauty, though Beau Garrett also looked better in the movie than IRL. Maybe it's the dark eye makeup and high contrast everyone used.

I need some EL wire for my clothes.

They left it such that the franchise could easily be over OR continued.

Salt: Angelina is beautiful as always. Sultry, yet kick-ass action. I'm also a strong believer in Liev Schreiber (costar) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (secondary costar). They play their roles well. The cast is a large part of the draw to this one though. There's good suspense, and a couple of minor twists, but you KNOW the twists will be there, even if you don't know exactly what they are. I rate this a 3 of 5 stars.

Inception: I like Ellen page. She's cute and sweet and witty. There's not really any of her wittiness in this movie. She's more of a recurring plot device than a character. Leo plays roughly the same type of character he played in Shutter Island. The cast is full of goodies, including Michael Caine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, and Ken Watanabe who all play their characters very convincingly. Conceptually, this movie kicks a$$. There's great cinematography without being over the top. There are multiple layers, adding complexity, but all of the layers are visually and auditorily different. This gives a good, subconscious queue as to what layer you're in. There's a lot of creative problem solving, and within its' universe, it's pretty consistent. I rate this 4.2 out of 5 stars.

2012 - finally saw this. Conceptually, it's good. Also, I like the cast. But the implementation of possibilities is over the top and unrealistic in order to draw out drama and action. I think if some of the danger-thrill had been toned down, it would have improved realism substantially. Instead, it's infinite cliffhangers.

Surrogates - This is pretty good, but still a little unrealistic. Robot blood because all injuries need blood, even if it's not red. Also, billions of remote control robots using some unspecified wireless connectivity and real-time responsiveness even when in shielded locations? Sorry, no. But, it covers some of the worries and concerns pretty well.

Good movie. Probably zero budget. It's all mental exploration about what if a guy was 14,000 years old.

I highly recommend it.

None of this really gets into the plot, so I don't really consider this to contain any spoilers.

Just in case any description is spoilerific though, I'll put this behind a cut (on LJ anyway).

My customer is in Eastern TZ and I'm presently in Central.
The customer starts the workday at 7:30 EDT, which is 6:30 my time. They had a meeting scheduled for 8:30, aka 7:30 to me. That's pretty early for me.

I get in, log on, and the meeting was canceled at 6:12am my time. *sigh*

I'd like to go back to bed please, except I took my fold-up camp cot back home. Time travel and clairvoyance are both not part of my skill set, I feel, due to laziness on my part. This is a time where it really could have paid off in sleep dividends.

Anyway, my front squash are doing amazing.
There's even a fruit the length of a baseball's diameter.
Next, I should plant some sassafras and cross pollinate to grow a sasquatch (one of my nicknames).

Additionally, Erica and I watched "Big Night" last night via NetFlix. This was a good movie. It was about Italian immigrants and two brothers' financial struggles. I don't do it justice. It's an amazing movie. The quote of the night is "F*ING GUY!" and number two is "DAMNIT! I SHOULD KILL YOU! This is so f*ing good, I should KILL YOU!" I think we'll have to make il timpano, you know, minus the hardboiled eggs. http://www.recipezaar.com/Timpano-Di-Maccheroni-The-Mythic-Pasta-Dome-85372

Finally, the freezer wasn't just frozen up, it's failed. I let it thaw out for about 2.5 hours with 89 degree air blowing into it with a fan. I plugged it in about midnight, and this morning, with only some dry goods and a gallon of water, the temp is still 38 F.

On the bright side of that, it seems that 3 doors down, one of our neighbors is an appliance repairman and lists refrigeration as one of his specialties. Maybe we can set up a webpage for him in exchange for services.

But, overall, it's an ok addition to the franchise, even if Chekov has no accent in this movie.

I feel abused.

OMFG.

That movie is pretty intense.

You know, I think I should put on a spandex bodysuit, a satin cape, red running shoes, and go zooming around downtown.

Marbles.

I think the moral of the story is that Todd lost his marbles.

very anticlimactic ending. Call it 3.5 out of 5 except the last 5 mins are a 1 minus.

Cute movie. Pretty brutal, but it's by View Askew and has Jason Mewes in it. What else could it be?

Anyway, brutal, definitely not for the faint of heart.

Very funny.

Very sappy.

Highly recommended.
