So, dreamwidth was a fork by some LJ developers back in 2008.

They can import LJ, and I've done so at http://xaminmo.dreamwidth.org

I do not know what I think yet. Too early. They are limited in some ways.

So, [livejournal.com profile] revjim has the lowest LJ userid of all my contacts (1635).

Out of all 113 people I list as an LJ friend right now, 10 (including me) are uid 50,000 or less.

These people are:
[livejournal.com profile] revjim = 1635 (local friend)
[livejournal.com profile] crackmonkey = 4797 (tic, far away)
[livejournal.com profile] wynken = 7678 (were friends from community land but got dropped for lack of applicability to curren life)
[livejournal.com profile] xaminmo = 10286 (me)
[livejournal.com profile] razormaid = 10467 (wife)
[livejournal.com profile] lasher = 10590 (sister)
[livejournal.com profile] farrisgoldstein = 24028 (local friend)
[livejournal.com profile] astronaut = 27135 (local friend - wife of [livejournal.com profile] farrisgoldstein)
[livejournal.com profile] triceratopsbean = 29302 but is inactive in lieu of [livejournal.com profile] eyeawry
[livejournal.com profile] sn0w_cr4sh = 43299 (busy, far away, doesn't post much lately)

I might have missed someone, but I skimmed through people semilogically so I'm 85% certain this is accurate.

I have now just wasted 15 minutes of my life that could have been spent sleeping.

Erica was surfing the web and found video interviews of various celebrities (lots of BSG celebs too) being queried on who they thought would win in a battle, a Centaur with a crossbow, or a Minotaur with a trident.

Centaur is 4-legged horse body, with the torso and head of a human in place of the shoulders/head of a horse.

Minotaur is torso and legs of a human but the head of a bull.

[Poll #1158459]

I searched, and there was an existing LJ Poll from November 2007 by someone I don't know, so I thought I'd put my own wording for my own poll.

Feel free to openly discuss your vote within my post.

Ok, so I just finished cleaning up tags to a certain level.

More than half of the tags that only had one instance were removed or retagged.
In the process, some collapsing of duplicates (network, networks, networking / video, videos, movie, movies)
Then, all of the tags with zero entries were removed.

THEN! With LJ-SEC, I tagged all untagged messages with "untagged"

Now, it's not cleaned up like I want it to be, but the immediate problem of having exhausted the maximum number of tags per journal was alleviated by far. (Down to roughly 575 from 1000)

GAh.

WTF.

So they even modify the webpage to include a button to add text to the text field.

Why not just auto add the text?

Or even better, why not add it to the "Music" field instead?

NooOO.

Searching the forums shows NO entries about LJ at all.

Dear LJ,
Screw this 1000 tag limit. Like I'm supposed to remember all the little stuff I one-off add.

You provided no obvious warning in advance, and there is no easy way to consolidate like-named tags.

So aparently, cuddles trump everything else for desirability.

Within 3 degrees, I'm #1 best catch, #3 for marry and sleep with, but not very hot, sexy, cool, likely to help out, etc. and only moderately attractive.

yAy for cuddles!

I don't remember when, but many moons ago, Kellie ([livejournal.com profile] wynken) was added to my friend's list.
Straight edge, attractive, interesting to see her life up in Maine.
She ran [livejournal.com profile] phalicpregunta which was recommended by [livejournal.com profile] jaclyn back when she and [livejournal.com profile] crackmonkey were dating. jeez. What, 6 years ago?

But, I didn't really have anything to *say*. Our lives are very separate.
In the beginning, there were messages here and there, but lately, it's been maybe 2 messages a year.
I'm pretty sure that out of my mindless drivel, very little actually affects or interests her.

Being the popular person she is, she was forced to trim me from her friends' list.

Change is weird. I haven't really *lost* anything. I can still comment on her journal, etc.
But it's still a change, which *feels* like a loss.

So, for some reason, I decided to listen to Frank Radio this evening.

For those not in "the know", this is http://frnk.livejournal.com and it's basically a stream of voiceposts.

So anyway, one of them has some chick talking about how some guy is a dork (says it 10213563165 times) and then says "I'm nineteen, and getting older. I guess we all have to grow up. I'm not even living at home anymore. tear tear, cry cry." (her words, not me mocking).

nineteen is old?

I must be fucking ancient then.

I can barely even recall what my woes were at 19, but they revolved around partying, low end computer sales jobs, sleep deprivation, wondering why I was always the "friend" instead of the "boyfriend" (not aggressive enough in pursuit, and not a big enough asshole to attract the REALLY needy ones.), etc.

I was still living at home. I graduated HS at age 19. I had a job, but couldn't keep money in the bank account. I had car problems because I didn't think of the concept of saving up to buy a newer/better one.

Life was very different.

I mean, I hate saving now, but at least I'm putting away something for retirement.

I have a family now and support them.

I'm slightly more reliable, much more confident, and much more valued at work.

I'll be 32 in a month and a half.

How the fuck did that happen.

I'm old compared to 19, or even to 23, but I'm young compared to 42, 55, 65, 72, 89 or 103

Perspective.

This just in... Livejournal access still sucks!

It looks like I've given a whopping $200 to LJ since I joined in 1999. First payment was Oct 18, 2000 for $50 (I think 2 years?). Then, in March of 2002, they had a special on permanent accounts, so I paid $100. Since then, I've given paid gift accounts to other people. I'm at $26/yr average. If I hit $25/yr, then that's when I'm more or less a mooch. Yah, I know, perm account is perm account.

So, I'm torn. Poor service a couple of times a year. Renew Erica's paid membership or no? Well, we'll still use it next year, so I suppose yes.

Also, I was going to call my Atlanta friend last night and wish her Happy Channuka. It started at sundown (about 4:23pm my time, or 5:23pm her time) and continues until sundown on the 24th. I was in a movie with my kids, and then tiredness and hunger set in. Then noisy Applebees. Just so you know. I don't like Applebees. It wasn't just that they don't have any atmospheric separation between the smoking and non-smoking sections; though that does make a difference. You know, ashes tipped in the sink in the bathroom. Too loud to hear yourself think. Moderate service, bordering on poor.

But, that's what happens with cheap restaurants. Price buys you exclusivity. It doesn't guarantee goodness of the place, but it reduces the amount of chaos you have to deal with at peak times.

Happy Chanuchristmakwanzika.

Am I crazy to think that a multi-million subscriber system should pre-announce even minor maintenance on a published schedule so that paying customers can know in advance of and during an outage?

*sigh*
